History
Alayne Katz's contributions to families and children spans an almost two-decade career which began when she represented New York City's indigent children for the Legal Aid Society's Juvenile Rights Division. She continued her commitment to children, becoming counsel to a New York City Foster Care Agency, St. Joseph's Services for Children and Families. Ms. Katz's contributions to child advocacy were recognized by the Westchester Women's Bar Association of New York when they bestowed their Juvenile Justice Award upon her in May 2003.
In addition to her private practice, Ms. Katz has been actively involved in professional and community organizations, serving on boards, and chairing several committees. She is a member of the Village of Irvington's Community Advisory Board and was recently the keynote speaker at the High School's Women's Issues Day. Ms. Katz donates her time to and mentors for the Coalition for Family Justice, Pace University Law School's Women's Justice Center, Westchester /Putnam Legal Services, Northern Westchester Shelter, etc.
She accepts Law Guardian appointments from Westchester and Rockland Counties' Supreme and Family Courts. As a Law Guardian she is an exemplar of diligent, humane advocacy for children in the courts of New York. She has been a role model for younger attorneys and has earned the acknowledged respect and admiration of her colleagues and the justices who preside over the courts in which she practices. She has represented the Westchester Women's Bar Association in numerous committees with other bar associations, the judiciary and other professional organizations in a continuing effort to improve justice for children and families.
Ms. Katz is the founder of Gail's Fund, a fund established in memory of her sister, a domestic violence fatality. Gail's Fund supports the Pace Women's Justice Center's efforts to promote justice for women and families and eradicate domestic violence. The Center has in turn named its offices, Gail's House.
